In the distant future, the world is run by 5-mega corporations whose tentacles extend throughout the explored galaxy. Once upon a time, the corporations used space raiders to disrupt each other flow of commerce. However, under a new commercial agreement, that practice has been outlawed. All logs were supposed to have been destroyed. Only now, one of those outlaw raider's log has surfaced and threatens to disrupt the galactic status quo. If the log falls into the wrong hands, the whole galactic corporate order could collapse.

Some of our favorite characters from Ruark's Murder Beyond the Milky Way are back so we can learn more of their backstories. But we are also introduced to new ones and shown how people of all walks of life fare in the future. While set in planet Earth's distant dismal future, the story could equally be set in the Middle Ages or in the time of the Samurai. The mystery is solved by two different heros, one using her brain, the other following more ancient methods found in nature. Both arrive just in the nick of time, and we later learn of yet a third explanation. I like a book with a strong female lead, a man of strong loyalty, and a mystery with a few twists in the end, so I liked this book.

Do Androids Weep Magnetic Tears eBook Eric B Ruark Reviews

Well Developed characters, good plot twists, nicely set up for book 3, except for typos which I attribute to poor editing.
I got a courtesy copy of this book in the hopes of getting a review. I was mightily curious about the unassuming book cover and decided to read it almost immediately. It starts slightly slow where we get to discover the grinds of the new social order where Earth is the ruler of countless terraformed worlds and it is ruled by 5 corporations. The protagonist is surprisingly enough a secretary of all people named Geneviere who used genetic enhancing to turn her 90+ year old body into that of a foxy 20 something with blonde hair, perfect body and blue eyes. Her boss MacGreggor wants to take advantage of a screw up of someone a bit lower on the corporate ladder who misplaced a logbook of corporate sabotage.

It doesn't take long for the man in charge Janos to want the log delivered to him at all costs. However in order to obtain it, they must release a high profile political prisoner named Seth with strings attached from the leader Janos to return him back to prison once he gets his hands of the book. Geneviere and a bodyguard named Quincey from the secretive order known as The Guardians in a sudden change of plans are ordered to bring the logbook to Janos in his private compound. Things don't turn out as planned, and Geneviere fearing for her life teams up with an apprentice of the convict named Scott and the mysterious android Tatiana to uncover the mysteries of the compound including the surprising murder of Janos Kadar's most loyal bodyguard.

Well written with a story that draws your interest further you go into the story, you'd expect corporate hound dogs to be the most blood thirsty beasts ever but in this book they have their set of morals and you don't know who the true villain is. The book has around 20 typos, several times Quincey's name was mispelled but I really enjoyed this underrated story.

Just curious about something nobody knows what dirt is? Seriously? I thought guardians were sent to all sorts of worlds. Do you mean humans turned everything they found in the outer realms of space into concrete jungles like Coruscant?
